January 21, 2014, Madison, Wis. – As part of Sustain Dane’s MPower Business Champions Program, 17 area businesses have spent the past year working to reduce their environmental impact. These businesses (listed below) have successfully conserved energy, lowered waste, increased alternative transportation, and gone green in their business processes and workplace environments.
Next week, the 2013 MPower Business Champions will highlight their sustainability work and results during the annual MPower Champions Public Showcase. This free, public event welcomes area business, neighborhood, and civic leaders to learn about the champions’ sustainability projects, as well as the opportunities and challenges of becoming a more sustainable business within our region.
Sustain Dane’s MPower Champions Public Showcase will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 7:30AM to 9:30AM at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center in Downtown Madison. The Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center sponsors the event, which includes coffee and breakfast. It is free and open to the public. Seating is limited, RSVP at http://www.2013mpowershowcase.eventbrite.com
Please attend this event to discover how:
- The Plaza Tavern became Madison’s original “eco-dive” with LED signage, local food, and more.

About the MPower Champions Program
Sustain Dane’s MPower Champions Program is a one year, fully-customizable program that empowers businesses and organizations in the Greater Madison Region to reduce their environmental impact while saving costs and creating a healthier and more engaging workplace and community. The program is a proven and nationally recognized model for achieving sustainability success from within an organization and was recently lauded by EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. To date, nearly 70 MPower Champions have collectively reduced 21,500 tons of CO2 emissions and have saved $916,000 in annual costs.
Sustain Dane facilitates the MPower Champions Program, now in its fifth year, working directly with organizations to design, implement, and measure an employee-led sustainability strategy. The program is made possible with funding and support by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Showcase Communities Grant, Madison Gas & Electric, and the City of Madison.
