Sure, it was snowing, but Kathleen brought us hot chocolate and, sure, the plans for the chicken coop were confusing, but Hugo, a local furniture-maker, deciphered them—and, yes, we built a chicken coop! A really impressive one.
For the past six weekends, we have been hosting a springtime seminar, “My Ideal Backyard.” Each Saturday afternoon, participants gather in one of their backyards and listen to an expert talk about garden beds, composting, and tending chickens. But it is not just listening. It is hands-on work.
On Saturday, the gang built a (very large) chicken coop. Everyone helped with cutting lumber, screwing together studs and cut mesh wiring. The plans claimed that it would take a skilled carpenter 15 hours to complete, but we did it in three!
Chickens are ordered, but not yet named.
