School Board Forum Tonight!

Posted: 9:30AM March 19th, 2012 | Comments

In recent years, the term “sustainability” has taken on as many different looks in Madison’s schools. West High has installed solar panels on its roof, while students at Thoreau Elementary wrote a short skit with fifth-graders dressed as polar bears and penguins to stress the impact a warming planet. Elsewhere, students are demanding locally-grown food and some two dozen school gardens have popped up recently.

But what is the School Board doing to support these innovative educational programs? And, more broadly, what does the School Board plan to do to support sustainability?

TONIGHT, Isthmus is co-hosting with us a forum that asks these very questions to candidates for the two contested School Board seats. Questions will be asked to all four candidates by a three-person panel, including New Editor Judith Davidoff, Sustain Dane’s Executive Director Kristen Joiner and East High junior Erin Barry. The forum is held at First Unitarian Society, 900 University Bay, 7 pm, free.
